Corvus - What does Corvus mean?
The name Corvus comes from the Latin word for “raven,” which is also the genus name for both ravens and crows. Ravens are known for their intelligence, faithfulness, and deep symbolism in many cultures and stories throughout history - One of our favorite and most meaningful stories about ravens is found in the Bible. This powerful account tells of the prophet Elijah, who, in a time of drought and famine, was miraculously provided for by God. The choice of the name Corvus reflects not only the raven’s strength and significance but also the role we aspire to play in the world of comics and illustrated storytelling.
Why the Black Bird Logo?
The black bird logo is inspired by a powerful story from the Bible, specifically from 1 Kings 17:1-6, where God miraculously provided for the prophet Elijah. In this remarkable account, Elijah was led to a brook where ravens, sent by God, brought him bread and meat every morning and evening, while he drank from the brook. This moment highlights God's faithfulness and provision in the most unexpected ways.
At Corvus Comics, we believe this story serves as a deep, symbolic foundation for our illustrative work. Just as God used ravens to care for Elijah, we aim to be like those ravens—bringing nourishment and provision to the Church and the world. Our mission is to spread the illustrated good news of Jesus Christ through comics that not only entertain but also deliver messages of hope, love, and faith.
Our motto, "Comics with Kingdom Purpose," reflects this calling. We are driven by the desire to use the powerful medium of comics to feed people spiritually, just as the ravens fed Elijah physically. We want to be vessels for God’s message, delivering stories that inspire, uplift, and challenge, all while staying true to the Kingdom purpose we’ve been called to serve.
We are the ravens. We are committed to being a conduit through which the good news of Jesus Christ is delivered to those who need it most—whether they’re within the Church or outside its walls. Just as ravens delivered sustenance to the prophet, Corvus Comics strives to deliver stories that are nourishing for the soul.
